Interactive webinar is thought to analyzing the situation of women in the context of Islamic family law, with a particular focus on the tension between relativist and universalist approaches. The aim of the meeting is to critically reflect on the possibilities of reconciling religious norms with universal standards of human rights. The meeting will discuss such issues as the institution of marriage, the regulation of inheritance and the obligations of spouses in Islam and other family and social aspects.

There will be cited situations, examples and their solutions according to Islamic law. Please bring your own examples, questions, observations in the French, Polish and other contexts familiar to you.

The meeting will be conducted for SIETAR France and SIETAR Polska by Dr. Beata Polok – she is an expert on women’s rights in Islam. She is currently working with the Haqaiq Legal Research Center in Riyadh and the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. She also holds the position of Director of the Faculty of Law at Dar Al Hekma University in Jeddah.
