Call for papers for a one-day conference in French and English at Université Paris Cité, in collaboration with SIETAR France:
“Intercultural Competence: Practices, Innovations and Controversies”
This one-day conference on Intercultural Competence will take place at Université Paris Cité. It is organized by Dr. Grazia Ghellini (Adjunct Lecturer, Université Paris Cité and President of SIETAR France) and Prof. Elisabeth Navarro (Université Paris Cité, ALTAE Laboratory) in collaboration with Dr. Lidia Wisniewska, Vice President of SIETAR France and led by students from the Master 1 and 2 programs in Languages, Interpretation, and Intercultural Strategies (LISI).

Conference Overview: This conference aims to examine how intercultural competence is currently defined, mobilized, discussed, and sometimes problematized in educational, professional, political, and everyday settings. It will question its potential limits, blind spots, or ideological presuppositions, while also reflecting on the diversity of existing theoretical frameworks and practices to better grasp concepts such as cultural difference, plurality, power relations, and inequalities. Particular attention will be given to negotiation, interpretation, and translation contexts, where issues of understanding, mediation, and co-construction of meaning play out concretely.

Proposals should be sent by 20 February 2026.

The conference will take place on 25 March 2026 at Université Paris Cité.

Journée d’échanges sur la compétence interculturelle à l’Université Paris Cité, organisée par Grazia Ghellini (Chargée de cours, Université Paris Cité et Présidente de SIETAR France) et Elisabeth Navarro (Professeur des  Universités, Université Paris Cité, Laboratoire ALTAE) en collaboration avec Lidia Wisniewska, Vice Présidente de SIETAR France et animée par les étudiants du Master 1 et 2 Langues, Interprétation et Stratégies interculturelles (LISI).

Cette journée se propose d’examiner la manière dont la compétence interculturelle est aujourd’hui définie, mobilisée, discutée et parfois problématisée tant dans les espaces éducatifs, professionnels, politiques que dans la vie quotidienne. Il s’agira d’en interroger les éventuelles limites, les angles morts ou encore les présupposés idéologiques mais aussi de réfléchir à la diversité des cadres théoriques et des pratiques existantes, afin de mieux appréhender certains concepts comme différence culturelle, pluralité, rapports de pouvoir, inégalités. Une attention particulière sera portée aux contextes de négociation, d’interprétation et de traduction, où se jouent de manière concrète les enjeux de compréhension, de médiation et de co-construction du sens.

Les propositions sont à envoyer avant le 20 février 2026.
La journée d’étude aura lieu le mercredi 25 mars 2026 à l’Université Paris Cité.
