« Intercultural analysis of wars : a forgotten element in international debates » with Dr. Joanna Siekiera

Date/Horaire
20/11/2025
18 h 00 - 19 h 30 Europe/Paris

The webinar explores the often-overlooked role of cultural perspectives in the understanding and analysis of warfare. It argues that traditional international relations discourse frequently prioritizes political, economic, and military factors, neglecting the profound influence of cultural narratives, identities, and thus legal values of the parties in any conflict dynamics. By employing a multidisciplinary approach that integrates insights from anthropology, sociology, and conflict studies, one can comprehend how cultural contexts shape perceptions of legitimacy, justice, and morality in warfare. Through case studies from various historical and contemporary conflicts, the presentation advocates that an intercultural lens can unveil underlying motivations and facilitate more effective conflict resolution strategies. Ultimately, Dr. Siekiera calls for a re-evaluation of current international debates to incorporate intercultural analysis, while not only strictly military one, thereby enriching understanding of global conflicts and fostering more inclusive and effective diplomatic practices.
