This engaging online session explores the intersection of intercultural communication and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) through the lens of belonging. In today’s rapidly evolving world, our sense of belonging is more crucial than ever. The need to belong is one of our most fundamental human needs and key to the wellbeing and success of individuals, teams, and organisations. Belonging acts as the glue that holds diverse groups together, fostering connections and trust among individuals from different backgrounds. When people feel they truly belong, they are more likely to collaborate, share ideas, and support one another. This sense of unity not only enhances group dynamics and inclusion, but also drives innovation and success.
Interculturalists and DEIB professionals Annelie Wambeek and Nadine Binder will invite you to reflect on your own experiences of belonging and share empirical insights on the power of belonging as well as actionable strategies for fostering a sense of belonging to support positive change and inclusion in diverse communities, workplaces, and classrooms.
Annelie Wambeek was an interculturalist long before she knew the term, having been raised and educated across continents. She is part Sri Lankan, part English, born in Sweden, lived in Spain and has Dutch ancestors – so interculturalism is both her life and work!
Having worked in the financial sector in The Netherlands and for various research institutes across continents, today Annelie has the privilege of working independently with global clients, at the intersection between the DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) and intercultural fields, with a focus on enhancing inclusion and belonging.
She currently serves on the Board of Sietar Netherlands and Sietar Europa.
Nadine Binder is a Germany-based facilitator, trainer, consultant, and certified professional Co-Active coach (CPCC), specialized in DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging), interpersonal and intercultural communication, intercultural competence development, global leadership development, and mental health awareness.
She holds a PhD in Psychology and continues to bridge research and practice in her work for clients across sectors as well as in her role as an external university lecturer.
Besides her independent work, she is a business partner at the Institute for Developing Across Differences (IDD), co-founder and co-host of the Globally Conscious Peacemakers (GCP) and has served on the board of Young SIETAR.
